Despite these channels being called “Alberta Wide” or “Alberta Open”, many are permitted to be used across multiple Provinces and Territories. This actually makes them more versatile than the LADD channels.
These 6 Alberta Wide VHF channels are often grouped with the 4 LADD channels, and are known as the “Basic 10”.
Not all channels can be used in each Province or Territory. Please carefully consult the table below to learn which channels can be used in the areas you will be operating in.

AB Wide 1 | 153.050 MHz | Areas : Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, NWT and Nunavut. Exclusions : Not to be used within 90km of Strathmore, Alberta. |
AB Wide 2 | 162.210 MHz | Areas : Alberta, NWT and Nunavut only. Exclusions : Not to be used within 50km of Crossfield, Alberta. |
AB Wide 3 | 163.050 MHz | Areas : Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba only. Exclusions : Not to be used above 53N or 114E in Saskatchewan. |
AB Wide 4 | 166.620 MHz | Areas : Alberta and Saskatchewan only. Exclusions : Not to be used within 50km of Calgary AB, or 50km of Magrath AB. Not to be used within 110km of Wiseton Sask, or 110km of Fillmore Sask. Must not be used south of 50N. |
AB Wide 5 | 168.120 MHz | Areas : Alberta only. Exclusions :Not to be used within 50km of Lake Louise AB. |
AB Wide 6 | 165.480 MHz | Areas : Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Exclusions : None. |
